Evaluation
By doing
this confirmatory project I have learnt how to become more confident,
Independent and have self awareness. In this process of work I had to develop
my ideas throughout the whole 8weeks which was a good amount of time to produce
good work. In my brief I was dreaming about what I want to do but I clearly did
not have the final outcome vision in my head. In other terms I had too many
ideas running across my mind which made my process run really slowly. Therefore
I started off by doing a mindmap and looking at someone else’s mindmap to help
me. Also the project which helped me was the pathway ‘Camera never lies’. It
was all about Identity which relates to this project.
Firstly I
tried to think about my final outcome and how I can reach that target but there
was a bridge in my way which I couldn’t pass me being in the hospital which
delayed me for a month for me to recover. However when I came back to the main
point I thought to myself I should change my brief a bit to make people realise
what it’s really about which is myself being in ‘Forgotten Roots’ and ‘how it
changed me as a person’. So I then looked at documentaries of celebrities and
the most enjoyable one was ‘Justin Bieber never say never’. An eye-catching documentary
that makes you wants to see the documentary by it using big fonts. Forgotten
Roots was the best idea to do my confirmatory on to show my lifetime
experience. Doing a spider diagram was a great idea because I had so much in my
mind which I needed to write on a piece of paper to make my mind feel lighter.
So the thing
I changed from my brief was to show people it’s all about me in Forgotten Roots
because it’ll be more engaging with the audience and they’ll get to know my
experience on the show. So one day I was told to watch a moving image on
YouTube to develop my ideas and to think outside the box with my experience. Watching
‘Out of sight and the vertical collage’ made sense on how to become more
creative. I watched it so many times I can remember everything with watching
it, to me it is a very effective piece of artwork. Both amazing clips were
inspired by David Hockney. This is how I then started to climb up the ladder
which led me to an artist which I thought I wouldn’t have to look at. Then I
examined on David Hockney’s work and I actually admired his work and tried
relating it to my work. The work which really inspired me was the work was
Hockney used 9 different cameras to film the four seasons which was ‘AMAZING’.
I think his work really made a difference to me and how he develops them.
I went to
record some of these footages which are no longer in use and which I had wasted
my time editing a bit. My main mistake was I filmed in portrait which I didn’t
realise until I had put them up on the computer. Then I got really frustrated
because I didn’t have much time to come up with something better at the time
then I came up with interviews as the documentary is about me so I thought that
be the best thing to do. So I set up the living room with Forgotten Roots
posters to show I’m in a studio or somewhere to do with Forgotten Roots I then
wrote my questions on a piece of paper which I need to be asked when I’m being
interviewed. I had a clip of my past which I was dressed ‘ghetto’ in a street
style and the other was my present which I presented myself in a formal style.
As I was doing the present Interview I had difficulties answering because I
found it hard to tell the truth whereas while I was doing my past Interview I
found it extremely easy to lie and I had no mistakes while the camera person
was filming me. I filmed the nature life in London to put in my footage it
shows how beautiful some of the places are by looking at the colours.
The software
I used to do my edits was ‘Final cut pro’ because I knew that software is
easier to use than any other software’s and I’m experienced it before. As I was
doing the first draft of my documentary it was simple and not that effective
for a media student. But I really enjoyed doing the sounds and the cuts on FCP.
I loved using the levels because I think I did a great job playing about with
it. So I then showed a teacher on what they think of it and they said it’s
really simple and looks like a normal documentary. So that’s when I thought of
looking at websites to help me upgrade me documentary and I found this website
called ‘VideoHive’ which has some good templates for me to use and make my
documentary more interesting. So I purchased the template online and downloaded
to the computer so I straight away used that to help me but I found it difficult
using after effects it was too complicated and had too many icons to look at
but eventually I got the hang of using it. After effects is one software which
you can produce good work but for me it’s very hard whereas I find FCP much
easier.  My present was on after
effects and the Past is on FCP to show the messy and bad side of me.
The other
stuff which inspired me was the Productions I was part of I think they really
showed me how it really works being in the media because they had to do the
planning researching developing the ideas to produce this amazing reality show
which is now successful. TV channels, Production crews, Settings etc. I have
now got a good idea on how to produce my own product.
Making
changes to my project at the last minute was frustrating because I spent ages
understanding After Effects even after disliking it but the only thing that was
not syncing was the time. The template was for 1min and my actually video was
for 4mins and the after effects timings would not let me to change the timings
and I had difficulties rendering. Therefore I completed my documentary in Final
Cut Pro because it’s easier to render and I added the animations, which was
done really quickly. So my first edit is my final outcome with extra hand drawn
displays and everything just flows nicely. There reason why I added extra
templates is to enhance my creativity and to show my framed present life.
Also I asked
for a plinth to be made for me for my exhibition because I want to provide
items which links to my reality show and culture. I want the audience to be
able to use their 5senses when they see my work so I am going to put incense
sticks, and Asian instrument ‘Tabla’, Bangladesh flag and use Forgotten roots
poster.  My plinth in 580 high and
426 x 375 which tells me I can most probably fit everything on my plinth.
Overall time
was a big issue in this whole project, if I was to be on time I would have been
on track and tried producing something a bit more high standard and tried
learning about after effects on my pathway study. But I can fix it by using
time and learning my mistakes.
Hand-Drawn Display
This Hand drawn display I purchased it from VideoHive. I did not use this on After Effects as it was difficult for me to change the timings with my video so it sync's in. Therefore I imported this to Final Cut Pro on my first edit and used it there to show how my present life comes together and its framed. This hand drawn display enhances my creativity.
